Compression :
Carrier designs, continuously
refines and builds its own compressors: rotary, scroll, hermetic and semi-hermetic
reciprocating, screw, centrifugal. For every possible air-conditioning and commercial
refrigeration application.
Heat Transfer :
Improving
the ease with which heat flows is a characteristic that vitally affects the effectiveness
of air-conditioning. An unending quest for Carrier's scientists, leading to the
development of increasingly efficient heat-transfer surfaces through refinements such as
air lanced sine wave fins, and internally and externally grooved tube surfaces.
Air Movement :
Aerodynamics
within Carrier's research centers use sophisticated computer-modeling programmes to
optimise fan and airflow designs for both overall system efficiency and low sound levels.
Recent advances by Carrier engineers have produced air-conditioning equipment that is as
much as sixteen times quieter than equivalent competitor offerings.
Air Quality :
Carrier's
objectives here are to develop better systems to introduce fresh air into an area, to
exhaust bad air, and to add and remove moisture selectively. These environment efforts
look toward providing pollution-free human comfort with minimum use of energy.
Electronics :
Carrier's
R&D teams have changed the way the industry looks at pieces of air-conditioning or
refrigeration equipment, by making it possible for individual elements to communicate
electronically with each other as integrated systems. Electronic control capability
developed by Carrier permits remote system monitoring and fault systems diagnosis through
a single computer of banks of centrally air-conditioned buildings.
